Deryl Spelrem
The Asker Church Family has lost another dear friend.
Deryl Spelrem suddenly passed away and we grieve over the hole he will leave in our lives, but rejoice that he will once again be with his wife, Pat and mother, Opal.
We struggle with comforting words for the family he has left behind on this earth.
"Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father's house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?"
-- John 14:1-2 --

Opal Spelrem
Today we are going to celebrate the life of Opal Spelrem.
We cannot even fathom how many lives she has influenced and touched over 101 years!
Her humour and wit will be greatly missed, but we know she was ready to go home.
The tears we shed are for us because we know what a treasure we lost, but we smile because we know what a beautiful lady that heaven gained!
"We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him." 1 Thessalonians 4:14
Opal's service is at 1 pm at the Ponoka Funeral Home.
The Memorial Reception will be held at Asker Lutheran Church after the Interment Service.

Lenten Season
Lent has become a tradition for many Christians in preparation for Easter.
“Traditions like this are important because they help form who we are,” he said. “They connect us to the past. They help us learn from the past and connect it to our futures. It connects us to God. It reminds us of our servitude. And, it provides an anchor to our faith.” - See more at: http://heralddemocrat.com/news/local/ash-wednesday-starts-lent-s-reflective-period#sthash.WcCXnozT.dpuf
How do we prepare for the journey of Easter?
... Fast ...
... Pray ...
... Spiritual discipline ...
How about listening, reflecting, serving others, loving others? You can remove the negative, but add a positive.

The Season of Epiphany
The word epiphany means manifestation or revelation.
The Magi were the first to acknowledge Jesus as King. We celebrate the manifestation of GOD in the form of human flesh through Jesus Christ, his son.
What does this mean to us? We must be in a time of focusing on the mission of the church, of reaching others, of healing divisions within God's children.
